Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is Often Disabling

December 27th, 2009

Obsessive-compulsive disorder, also known as OCD, is a disabling mental syndrome that interferes with the performance of everyday activities. Uncontrollable obsessions cause an individual to behave compulsively, adhering to a strict set of guidelines developed for each obsession. If these ‘rituals’ are not performed, a person suffering with OCD will often experiences severe anxiety in the form of heart palpitations, panic attacks, and unexplainable distress.

The obsessions and their accompanied behavior usually do not make any sense to an outside observer. The behavior patterns are repeated over and over again in an attempt to relieve the anguish that OCD’s unwanted and obtrusive thoughts cause. This behavior becomes so consuming that it can interfere with employment, personal relationships, and responsibilities.

There is not a cure for obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, the severity of the symptoms can be controlled with medication and extensive therapy. There are treatment facilities readily available that offer individual assessments to help determine the appropriate course of action. Not only will this reduce your symptoms but it will also improve your overall quality of life.

Outpatient Drug Rehabilitation Offers a Much Needed Alternative

December 27th, 2009

Outpatient drug rehabilitation can provide the perfect alternative to an inpatient program for those who have family, jobs, or school that prohibit them from being away for an extended period of time. One of the hardest parts of drug treatment is being away from your everyday responsibilities. The fear of losing everything often keeps an addict from seeking the help that they so desperately need. Outpatient rehabilitation allows you to maintain your responsibilities while receiving treatment for your drug addiction.

After a professional assessment of the severity of your addiction is made, a course of treatment will be developed to best suit your health problems. Most outpatient facilities will follow the traditional 12-step program, including group and individual therapy sessions. The participation and support of your family and good friends will be encouraged as a part of your rehabilitation. As an outpatient, you will have less restrictions so you will have to put forth all of your effort and dedication to achieve and maintain sobriety.

Recovering Addicts Take Next Step on VH1’s Sober House

December 27th, 2009

VH1’s Sober House is the next step for many of the celebrities who successfully completed the requirements of Dr. Drew’s course of treatment. They were offered the opportunity to further solidify their sobriety as they begin to rebuild their lives outside of the controlled environment of the withdrawal and detox facility, while living in what is referred to as a sober house. The house has employment and curfew rules that are enforced by a House Mother, Jennifer Gimenez. Jennifer, a recovering addict herself, has maintained sobriety for 3 years. She must keep a careful watch on her new roommates and provide them with strength and guidance so that they may make better decisions in life. Dr. Drew will also be available for individual and group therapy sessions. They certainly have their work ahead of them as already Stephen Adler, drummer for Gun’s and Roses, has been caught using heroin and was eventually arrested. Each member of the house reacted to this development with their own thoughts and reactions as seen on Sober House.

Assistance Available for Drug Rehabilitation

December 27th, 2009

The cost of drug rehabilitation services pales in consideration to the devastating financial burden associated with drug addiction.  Individuals afflicted by addiction will often irresponsibly spend beyond their financial means in order to obtain the substance they can no longer live without.  Severe and painful physical withdrawal symptoms will force addicts to spend money on drugs, money which would normally be reserved for rent or mortgage, utility bills, and even groceries.  The costs of drug rehabilitation will pay for itself in the form of newly found or re-found financial responsibility and stability.

Do you know what to look for when selecting a quality drug rehab center? It is a very difficult and important decision. It may be one of the hardest decisions a person must make in their lifetime. Be sure to ask questions, including, “What courses of treatment will be used?”, and “What is the cost of these treatments?” When searching for drug addiction services you may find that the costs associated with different treatment types will vary.  The costs involved should reflect the treatment type that is being offered.

Inpatient rehabilitation will most likely be greater than outpatient therapy, as services are then usually provided in a hospital atmosphere on a 24 hours a day,  7 days a week basis and may include a daily regimen of medication to provide the maximum amount of comfort during the initial withdrawal phase.  Follow-up care often consists of group and individual therapy sessions and possibly the continued use of medication with decreasing dosages to maximize treatment results and achieve total sobriety. Outpatient rehabilitation clinics also have financial benefits available to help alleviate some of the costs involved.  It is often possible to be reimbursed for travel expenses and you will also find that group and individual therapy sessions with trained professionals are included with the standard office visit fee.  This fee may also include your medication, if prescribed by the doctors on staff.

Did you know that the cost of a drug rehab center can be paid for in a variety of ways? Rest assured, there is help available. There are a number of ways to receive financial aid to help cover the cost of rehabilitation. Private insurance companies will usually contribute to the bills accrued for mental health services. These mental health services include drug and alcohol rehabilitation. There are also state and federal programs that offer assistance as well as scholarships and grants that require nothing in return besides sobriety. It becomes a win-win situation for all of those who are involved.
